What to include in your request
When filling out the form below, please write what you already know or can guess about your ancestors:
What you want to understand — for example:
“Who were my ancestors culturally?”, “Where did our surname come from?”, or “What was the ethnic landscape of that region?”
Full names and how they were originally written (for example: Ivan Ivanov, or in pre-reform / local spellings if known).
Approximate years of birth (even if uncertain).
Places of birth or residence — please specify as precisely as possible:
village, volost (small district), region or province, town/city.
The more geographic details, the easier it is to trace the cultural roots.
Any family stories or ethnic hints you remember — dialects, local traditions, religion, crafts, or how people identified themselves.
